Blue Ridge Elementary Students Attend Young Authors’ Day
Thirteen students from grades three, four and five attended Young Authors’ Day at Keystone College on November 3rd. This annual event is sponsored by the Northeastern Pennsylvania Reading Association. Students attend a day of workshops presented by children’s authors, illustrators, poets, and local presenters. Students are recommended by their classroom teacher and submit a piece of original written work which is published on a CD given to all participants. The featured authors for this year were Judy Young who specializes in writing children’s poetry along with Lindsay Barrett George, a local children’s author and illustrator. Students had the opportunity to meet these authors and have books autographed by them. When asked what they liked best or learned from attending Young Authors’ Day, Kyra Powell replied, “I loved getting my book signed by Judy Young and learning about what kinds of poetry there are.” When asked what aspect of their writing are the students most proud of, Abbie Hartman said, “I am most proud of my voice and my humor in my writing.” Young Authors’ Day proved to be an educational and fun event for all. Blue Ridge Elementary is proud of their student authors!
Vocabulary Activity in Miss Felkowski's Class

In review of this week's vocabulary words "cooperation" and "volunteer," six students from Miss Felkowski's K-2 Learning Support class worked together to create a fleece blanket and encouraging letters to donate to our local chapter of Project Linus, a nonprofit organization that provides blankets for children who are seriously ill, injured, or otherwise in need.

Happy Veterans’ Day from Kindergarten!
In celebration of Veterans’ Day, all of the kindergarten class participated in making soldiers and dedicated their hallway walls to all of the men and women who serve in the military. Parents were asked to complete a short questionnaire and send in photographs of family members and/or friends who are/were in the military. Then kindergarteners wrote about their family, friends or soldiers. The teachers also integrated the November edition of our Scholastic magazine and streaming video which spoke about why we celebrate Veterans’ Day. Please stop by to see our hallway!
