Blue Ridge 5th Grade Art Club members, recently finished building centerpieces for the fourth annual Blue Ribbon Gala on Saturday, February 15th.  This fundraiser benefits the non-profit organization Marley's Mission, which provides free equine-assisted psychotherapy (EAP) to children who have suffered trauma.  

Blue Ridge students built these amazing sculptures under the guidance of art teacher, Sarrah Dibble-Camburn in their after school club.  The art club members used paper scrolling to build three dimensional horses.  This project took a few weeks to complete using patience, paper, and glue.  The students created eleven centerpieces for the event.

• Age 4 kindergarten if she/he has attained the age of four years and no months by September 1.  **NOTE:  If your child is currently enrolled in the Age 4 kindergarten program this year, you DO NOT need to register your child for Age 5 kindergarten.

• Age 5 kindergarten if she/he has attained the age of five years and no months by September 1.

5th Grade "Multiplication" Tournament

At the beginning of the year, each 5^th grade student was given a set of multiplication flash cards to begin studying.  On December 13, the second annual 5^th grade multiplication tournament was held.  The students were divided into 4 groups based on a timed  assessment.  During the tournament, 2 players faced each other at a time.  The player with the fastest correct answer then faces the next opponent.  Each round was timed.    Each player’s score was kept for stating the correct answer the fastest for the duration of each round.  The players with the most quickly given correct answers moved to the next round.  In the first round there were approximately 20 students per group, down to around 10 students in 2^nd round, and the final round had each group to 4 or 5 students.  At the end of round 3, a champion was named from each group for the getting the most timely correct answers.  The winners were Sierra Bross, Clay Repella, Ryan Glatzel, and Alex Gennarelli. The winners each received a $5.00 gift card to Video King and popcorn purchased by the fifth grade teachers.

"Buddy Activity" -- 6th graders and 2nd graders working together

Above is a few pictures from the December "buddy" activity run by Mrs. Goff (Grade 6 Teacher) and Mrs. Gilboy (Grade 2 Teacher).  2nd and 6th grade students made painted ornaments together and had snack.  Mrs. Goff stated, "I have seen such positive things come out of this monthly activity on my end as a 6th grade teacher. My students have an opportunity to be the "big" kids!  Since they work with the same children each time, they have become like big brothers and sisters, without the fighting.  They are good role models and I am very proud of them."

BRES Employee Receives PASR Grant to Support 2nd Grade Pen Pal Program

On Monday, November 25, 2013 2nd Grade Teacher Mrs. Trudi Hepler attended the BR Board of Education Meeting and received $150 Educational Support Grant from the PA Association of School Retirees (PASR). PASR representivtes in attendance to present the award were Mr. Robert McNamara (former BR Superintendent) and Ellen Holdredge (PASR Susquehanna County Chairman).

Mrs. Hepler wrote the grant request to support a Pen Pal project she started with Kathleen Hilling (Teacher at Susquehanna Community SD) in 1999. Every month the classrooms from Blue Ridge and Susquehanna send letters with a craft or treat to each other. At the end of the year the two schools get together for "Meet Your Pen Pal Day." This project promotes letter writing skills, communication, and a special bond between schools who now can join each other in HS on athletic teams through a partnership between the two schools.
