Support 5th grade's Hexagon Project!!

Blue Ridge Fifth Graders, in art teacher Sarrah Dibble-Camburn's Art Club, are once again collecting money to help people heat their homes in the winter.  The students complete this project annually and over the past three years have collected over $1500.  This project is part of the Hexagon Project (www.interdependencedaynepa.org) where  BR students created Hexagon shaped donation containers and will place them in participating local businesses.  The Hexagon Project stresses the need to be interdependent.  BR's Art Club defines that as helping our neighbors.  The containers will remain in the businesses for about 2-3 months collecting change.  The money raised will be donated to Susquehanna County Interfaith for their Fuel Assistance Program to help people in need.  This is the largest group of Art Club members to participate and there is much enthusiasm.  The students love to create art and they feel good helping someone at the same time.  The Blue Ridge students have been working on this project since the beginning of October.
If you see a Hexagon Donation Container please help us by adding some change!  If you would like to make an additional donation, please contact Sarrah Dibble-Camburn at 570-465-3141 or dibbles@brsd.org.

Author Lee Harper Visits with Blue Ridge Kindergartners

Lee Harper visited Kindergarten on Thursday, November 14, 2013.  He told us about his childhood and how he started drawing.  He likes to think of basic shapes, then turns them into characters.  He read three stories to our children.  Woolbur by Leslie Helakoski and illustrated by Lee Harper, Snow! Snow! Snow! by Lee Harper, and Turkey Trouble by Wendi Silvano and illustrated by Lee Harper.  Afterwards, our Kindergartners learned how to illustrate just like Lee Harper.  They each drew a character from the stories.  Each child received a free signed hardcover book, Turkey Trouble.

This event was arranged by Historical Society & Free Library Association from Susquehanna County.  Funding was made possible through the support of Cabot Oil & Gas Corporation, Pump N Pantry, and RESOURCE Environmental Health and Safety.

Children listed in picture left to right (top row) Joseph Thompson-Bruno, Kayleen Decker, Jocelyn Megill, Tyler Carpenter, (bottom row) Layla Sinnett, Nicholas Marvin, Siena Fritsky, Parker Glasgow.
